Yay for OUTSIDE Recess!

We've been able to enjoy the weather outside this week - thank goodness! We were all going a little crazy! HA!

The kids had an incredible Wednesday - they are a very impressive group! I'm feeling like a pretty spoiled teacher!

We had a super first week, despite being inside for most recesses! Here's a few pictures to highlight some of our fun!

We tried out our flexible seating options. Each day we are learning about what spots are "smart spots" for each of us.

We played "Lego Olympics" to practice working with partners, in trios and in small groups. The kids had a blast using imagination to create new things with Legos. I have a hunch this will be a preferred activity this year!

Since we were stuck inside, we had lots of fun with GoNoodle! This will be a tool we use for brain breaks, but also to practice lots of academic things, like math fact fluency and new vocabulary.

We practiced our reading stamina with read to self time. The kids were awesome! We made it for 12 minutes! We are learning that the more we read, the better readers we will be!

We also had a blast making "friendship sushi." Each part of the sushi had special significance. The banana represented being our best selves. The marshmallow creme represented the times that life gets sticky and tricky - we need to stick to it and keep trying! And the fruity pebbles were meant to show that our classroom community is made up of all different strengths and talents, and that we need to celebrate our uniqueness!

I can't wait to see how this group of kids will grow this year! They are off to a wonderful start!

What is it?

Hello! Thanks for stopping by the blog!

I've been busy taking care of a few things at school. Our classroom is a giant mess right now! I'm reorganizing some things, and that always means I make a big mess before I can put it all back the way I want it! Yikes!

I'm on my way to Denver for my cousin's wedding this weekend. But I'll be back at school on Monday, making sure things are ready for you!

In the mean time, here's a little picture of something that Mrs. Finnegan built for our classroom. Can you guess what it is?? I can't wait to show you what it looks like when it's finished!

See you soon!

Summer Adventures

Greetings!
I hope summer has been wonderful! Here's some pics from my summer adventures!

Ms. Judge and I went to a teacher conference in San Antonio, Texas. Before the conference started, we got to explore the Alamo and the Riverwalk. It was awesome! We went to the top of "The Tower of Americas," which is a little bit taller than the Space Needle in Seattle! It was AWESOME! We also got to meet some of our favorite teacher idols. We learned a lot and can't wait to have fun with our second graders this year!

Next up, a little fun around Missoula with Ms. Finnegan and Mrs. Malchi! We went roller skating! I was a little bit nervous, but gave it a good try. I had a blast! We even ran into lots of Russell kids! That was the best part!

I also had an epic road trip with Ms. Finnegan and her daughters. We went to Michigan. We had lots of awesome stops along the way there and home.

We took a ferry across Lake Michigan, visited the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, and Mackinac Island. There are no cars on the island, so we had to take a horse carriage to see the sights! We went to a butterfly house, and one even landed on me!! It was exciting!

On our way home, we traveled through South Dakota. We saw the Badlands, Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Monument. It was incredible They aren't even down carving it out of stone - and it will take about 75 more years to finish!

The best part is always coming home to Montana! I've spent a lot of time hanging out at Flathead Lake.

Thanks for checking in! I'll be posting classroom pictures soon! Check back next week!

Happy Summer

Welcome to our classroom blog! I hope you will check back throughout the summer. I'll be posting pictures of my summer adventures. I'll share some pictures of activities that my class did last year. And when it's time, I'll give a sneak peak of Russell School construction and our classroom while I'm setting things up.

To kick things off, here's a picture from my first summer adventure! I traveled to Billings with some friends to see Garth Brooks in concert! We had a blast singing along! I love all kinds of music, and I love to share music at school with my students. What kinds of music do you like?

I hope you have a great summer! Check back soon for some hints about 2nd Grade fun!
Love,
Ms. Molloy
